Affordability & Housing Stability
Every Montgomery County resident deserves a stable, affordable place to call home.
Our nation is going through an affordability crisis — and Montgomery County is experiencing it as well. For a family of four, the estimated annual income needed to cover basic needs is around $122,943. Median home prices are around $620,000, and one-bedroom apartments rent for roughly $1,800 to $2,200 per month. The average household income is $125,371, meaning many families are living paycheck to paycheck. As the Trump Administration's policies continue leading to economic uncertainty, layoffs, and tariff wars, residents are facing surging prices without increases in wages. Fatmata will take on the affordability crisis.
Fight for Affordable Housing
The only sure economic way to reduce rental prices and increase home ownership is to create more housing and more programs to put residents on a path towards home ownership. Fatmata will work with leaders across the county to ensure residents are not facing increasing rent prices and getting priced out of homeownership.
But more housing alone is not enough — it must be truly affordable. Fatmata will promote partnerships with nonprofit and mission-driven builders who prioritize community benefit over profit, ensuring that new development creates homes that working families, seniors, and first-time buyers can actually afford.
Eliminate Food Deserts
Too many county residents live in areas with only one grocery store or have to drive more than 15 minutes to find grocery options. The lack of options allows grocers to increase their prices without competition. Fatmata will work to bring more grocery stores and expand farmers' markets to year-round operation in underserved areas across the county.
Increase Access to Community Healthcare
Fatmata will fight to increase funding to community health care options so more county residents have access to community health programs — allowing everyone to seek affordable and reliable health care close to home.
Childcare & Early Childhood
Childcare is one of the largest expenses facing Montgomery County families. Many families spend over 15% of their income on care, with costs often exceeding $20,000 per year — while the county still lacks enough childcare options to meet demand.
These challenges force too many parents — especially mothers — to delay returning to work, reduce hours, or leave the workforce entirely. That's not just a family issue — it's an economic issue that affects our entire community.
Fatmata will work to expand access to affordable childcare, support partnerships that increase capacity, and strengthen pathways toward universal early childhood education so every family has access to safe, high-quality care.
Why This Matters for Montgomery County
When teachers, nurses, firefighters, and sanitation workers can't afford to live in the county they serve, everyone suffers. Community institutions weaken. Commute times grow. Diversity declines. The vibrant, inclusive Montgomery County we believe in — where people of all backgrounds can build a life — requires bold action on affordability. Fatmata is ready to deliver it.
Housing is not a luxury. It is a foundation. With your support, Fatmata will fight every day to make sure Montgomery County remains a place where everyone can afford to live, work, and thrive.
