Protect Students from Federal Education Cuts

Federal funding supports critical programs in Montgomery County schools — from Title I funding for low-income students, to IDEA funding for special education, to grants that support English language learners. Fatmata will work with county leaders to ensure cuts from the Department of Education are not felt by our community. Whether to special education and IDEA or to community school funding, she will work to ensure there is a budget reallocation process so students and families don't feel the impact.

Increase Accessibility Through ASL and BASL Services

Every student and family deserves to fully participate in Montgomery County's educational system. Fatmata will fight to increase funding and resources for ASL and BASL services to raise accessibility standards across county schools — ensuring that Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, families, and community members are never left out of the conversation.

Language access is equally fundamental for families who communicate in languages other than English. Fatmata will push to expand interpretation and translation services across county schools and public offices so that no family is shut out because of how they communicate.

Champion Community Schools

Fatmata believes all students — regardless of family circumstance — deserve a quality education. Community schools serve some of our county's most under-resourced communities and need special attention to ensure children aren't left behind. Fatmata will fight for resources and community outreach, pushing for more equitable distribution of funding, counselors, nurses, and enrichment programs across the county.

Stand Up for Educators

Our educators are on the front lines in our communities — many times doing much more than teaching within school walls. Fatmata will fight to make sure they have access to the resources and support they need, as well as work with state legislators to find solutions for the teacher shortage across the state.

Improve School Capacity Planning

So many of our recently rebuilt schools are already approaching capacity again. Fatmata believes we need a better way to predict growth in the county so we have more kids in classrooms and fewer kids in trailers. She will push for smarter, more transparent school capacity planning that is coordinated with land use decisions and responsive to community input.

Education is the great equalizer — but only when it works for everyone. When we invest in every child, regardless of their zip code, disability status, or family income, we invest in the future of Montgomery County. Fatmata will never stop fighting for that promise.
