Seniors & Aging with Dignity

Montgomery County's seniors built this community. Fatmata will fight to make sure they can stay, thrive, and age with dignity.

By 2030, adults older than 60 will be more than 25% of Montgomery County's population — and we owe it to them to ensure they are able to age in place, surrounded by community and family. Fatmata understands how the affordability crisis and the weight of property taxes after retirement forces hundreds of county residents out of their homes every year, forcing them to downsize or leave the county. She will be their champion on the County Council.

Bring Down Costs for Older Adults

Fatmata will fight to bring down costs for older adults by increasing funding to community healthcare centers, increasing access to community center programs, lowering utility costs, and providing reduced fares for public services — giving seniors the financial breathing room they need to stay in the community they built.

Lower Property Taxes for Retirees

Fatmata will fight to lower property taxes for retirees — especially retired county employees, public service employees, and low-income older adults — so residents are able to age in place rather than being pushed out of the homes and neighborhoods where they've spent their lives.

Increase Accessibility and Access to Care

Fatmata will work to increase accessibility options and access to care for aging adults so they can find low-cost medical services close to home. No senior should have to choose between their health and their financial security.

Why This Matters for Montgomery County

Seniors vote — and they vote in every election because they understand what's at stake. But beyond politics, how a community treats its elders reflects its values. Montgomery County should be a place where the people who built it can afford to stay, can access the care they need, and can age with dignity and respect. Fatmata will make sure it is.
